micro elements of Shaun of the dead

The film i am going to write about is Shaun of the dead

- Mise-en-scene (setting, props, costume, hair and make-up)

Props
Their are lots of props used in this clip, and some of their purpose is to make the audience (us) to feel like
its more of a home than a house. The props have different purposes, some get thrown at the arm less
zombie and others that Shaun and Ed don't touch, like the books on the book shelf behind the TV.

Setting
The scene is set in a house with only Ed and Shaun in the clip until a Zombie trespasses onto their land, there is not much to see in the clip, let alone the setting.

Costume
Their costume helps a lot with identifying the difference between Shaun and Ed to the Zombie. And gets us to know what they are like. Shaun he is wearing his work clothes therefore he must have gotten back from work. Whereas Ed doesn't work and we can tell be his choice of clothing because he is wearing like your everyday casual clothes.

Hair and make-up
Hair and make-up is very important if you want to make a film about Zombies because it makes them look like they have gone through hell and back just to stay alive. Shaun and eds hair are generally neat but compare them to the zombie then that is another problem because the zombies hair is all messed up, and talk about the make up. It's awesome, he looks like a real zombie.

- Performance (character expression and movement)
The way Shaun and Ed moved when they where surprised by the zombie was hilarious, because they moved in such a hurry, screaming. If they had just gotten up as anyone would do after you sit down then it wouldn't look real and it ruins the film but the way Shaun and Ed moved was amazing and a key aspect of the film.

- Lighting
Some of the lighting is artificial but most of the light entering the house is natural which means it come from the sun and enters by a window, and in this Shaun of the dead clip it shows the window and its daylight outside as well.

- Cinematography (the camera shots and angles)
There were lots of camera angles in this clip including:
a wide shot,
a POV (point of view)
a close up,
a two shot,
they all help to create a sense of fear for Shaun And Ed.
- Editing (the cuts and transitions)
There were times that the clip had some whip pans especially when it was focusing on Shaun and Ed talking then whipped round to see the zombie standing there.
Others Editing techniques included:
Cross-cutting

- Sound
There was non-diegetic music, which means the characters cant hear the music, its over the back round of when Shaun and Ed were lobbing discs at the zombie.
